For centuries, Cremona has been regarded as the cradle of world lutherie —the city that gave birth to legendary masters such as Stradivari, Amati, and Guarneri. Today, it continues to embody that same spirit of craftsmanship and artistic excellence, serving as the natural home of Cremona Mondomusica, the world’s foremost fair dedicated to string instruments and the art of lutherie.
This year, we had the opportunity to visit this extraordinary event, a space where tradition and innovation converge, and where luthiers, musicians, and makers from around the globe share their passion for fine instruments.
It was a deeply inspiring and enriching experience, allowing us to admire the work of our colleagues from the Associazione Liutaria Italiana (ALI), and to explore the impressive exhibition of some of the most renowned bowed instrument makers. Among them, it was a pleasure to encounter the artistry of Marco Maguolo, Silvia Zanchi, and Marco Disegna, among other distinguished masters whose craftsmanship continues to set the highest standards in the field.
Beyond the exhibitions, Mondomusica also offered the opportunity to discover and select the finest materials, finishes, and tools—indispensable resources for those dedicated to advancing the art of lutherie.
Our experience in Cremona reaffirms that lutherie is far more than a craft: it is a living dialogue between heritage and contemporary creativity. To take part in this gathering, in the very heart of the city that shaped the history of the violin, is both an honor and a profound source of inspiration.
