Wayra (“divine wind” in Quechua) is a concert double-top guitar developed by luthier Pajares in collaboration with Mexican guitarist and pedagogue Rodrigo Herrera. Conceived through an ongoing dialogue between maker and performer, the model explores a modern double-top concept built entirely from natural materials, seeking to combine exceptional responsiveness with the depth and warmth of a traditional classical guitar. Particular attention was given to balance, projection, and effortless playability.
Inspired by the most successful contemporary double-top designs yet grounded in the principles of traditional luthiery, Wayra explores a fully organic approach to this construction. Its soundboard features a unique all-wood double-top: a delicate inner core of Canadian red cedar sandwiched between two outer cedar plates, avoiding synthetic materials such as Nomex or Kevlar. The internal structure uses a refined seven-fan bracing system in spruce, enhancing sensitivity and dynamic range while preserving the natural tonal complexity of a classical instrument.
The result is a guitar of remarkable warmth and color. Its voice can be intimate and lyrical, producing soft, rounded tones rich in nuance, yet it responds instantly when driven with energy, revealing brilliance, clarity, and impressive power. With its Indian rosewood body and carefully selected curly cedar neck, Wayra balances modern acoustic performance with the organic character and musical soul of the classical guitar.
